I feel counselling is about making the unconscious, conscious; it is about growing, developing as a person and becoming more self-aware. I believe by gaining a greater understanding of yourself, it is possible to make changes in your life. We can not force others to change, but we can make changes in the way we relate towards others and this in turn can change how others relate towards us . We can begin to change, once we become more aware of our patterns of behaviour and by understanding why we act as we do. Psychodynamic counselling involves exploring how childhood experiences and early relationships with our parents or care givers, can impact on our present ways of relating and the beliefs we hold about ourselves and others.
